Visakhapatnam has several beaches. Some are quieter, some are more scenic, and a few are better suited for those who simply want to sit beside the sea without much disturbance.

Ramakrishna Beach, popularly known as RK Beach, is different.

INS Kursura Submarine Museum

From outside, the submarine appears large. Inside, however, the passages, sleeping spaces and equipment reveal how restricted life beneath the sea must have been.

The museum also reflects Visakhapatnam’s strong association with the Indian Navy and the Eastern Naval Command.

TU-142 Aircraft Museum

Opposite the submarine museum stands the TU-142 Aircraft Museum.

The enormous naval aircraft is impossible to miss from Beach Road. Its size becomes even more impressive when viewed from close range.

Together, the submarine and aircraft museums create an interesting combination. One represents life beneath the sea; the other recalls naval operations in the sky.

These two museums alone make the RK Beach stretch different from most other urban beaches in India.

Parks, Statues and Memorials

Several smaller attractions are spread along the waterfront.

The submarine and aircraft museums have separate entrance tickets and operating hours. Their schedules may change, so it is better to verify the timings before visiting.

Visitors should also avoid entering the sea carelessly. Waves and currents can be unpredictable, even when the shoreline appears calm.

Is RK Beach Worth Visiting?

RK Beach may not be the quietest beach in Visakhapatnam.

It may not offer the untouched landscape found farther from the city either.

But it is undoubtedly the beach that best captures the character of Visakhapatnam.

The sea, museums, naval heritage, parks, statues, temples, roadside food and constant movement make it more than a place to watch the waves.

It is where Visakhapatnam comes to meet the Bay of Bengal.
