Lamb's Rock - Coonoor

Coonoor has many viewpoints. Lamb's Rock is one of the popular ones.

Located about 8 km from Coonoor, it lies on the road to Dolphin's Nose. The drive itself is pleasant, with tea estates, wooded slopes and the cool Nilgiri landscape accompanying you for most of the route.

From the viewpoint, the hills drop steeply into the valley below.

On a clear day, the Coimbatore plains can be seen far away in the distance. The deep ravine, green slopes and layers of hills make the view quite impressive.

But then, this is the Nilgiris.

You may arrive expecting a grand view and find only mist in front of you. Wait for a few minutes and the clouds may suddenly move away, opening up the entire valley.

That unpredictability is part of the experience.

Why Lamb's Rock?

The viewpoint is named after Captain Lamb, who was associated with creating a pathway to this spot during the British period. The place was later named after him.

Today, it is a convenient stop for anyone travelling towards Dolphin's Nose.

Both viewpoints can easily be covered together, but they offer slightly different experiences. Lamb's Rock is better known for its sweeping view towards the Coimbatore plains, while Dolphin's Nose offers a deeper view into the surrounding valleys and, when the weather permits, a distant glimpse of Catherine Falls.

Lamb's Rock is not a place where you need to spend hours.
